When this review is useful

You know that part of the work is harder than it should be, but the cause is not clear.

The team may be dealing with:

  • reports that take too long or cannot be trusted;
  • repeated manual work, checking and follow-up;
  • handoffs that depend on memory or one key person;
  • tools that do not match the way people work;
  • information spread across spreadsheets, inboxes and systems; or
  • a process that worked when the organisation was smaller but is now under strain.

Questions the review answers

  • What is actually causing the problem?
  • Which issues are causes, and which are symptoms?
  • What should we fix first?
  • What can wait or be left alone?
  • Can our team make the change?
  • Would outside help save time or reduce risk?

Seven parts. One focused review.

Each part can stand alone, but they work better together. You move from a messy problem to a clear cause, an order of action and a plan your team can use.

How it works

1

Check the fit

Tell us about the problem. We reply within two working days.

2

Agree the scope

We confirm the workflow, people, documents and fee before you pay.

3

Map the work

Up to three people join one 90-minute online working session.

4

Get clear next steps

You receive the findings within 10 working days, followed by a 30-minute call.

What is included

  • a short intake form;
  • review of a small set of useful documents or screenshots;
  • one 90-minute online working session for up to three people;
  • review of one workflow or one connected operations problem;
  • an Operational Friction Map;
  • a plain-English explanation of the likely causes;
  • a fix now, fix next and leave alone list;
  • a practical 90-day plan;
  • a one-page leadership or board summary; and
  • one 30-minute findings call.

Your team will usually spend two to three hours on the review.

What is not included

  • a review of every process or system;
  • software selection, setup or implementation;
  • detailed technical plans;
  • accounting, legal, cybersecurity, HR or regulatory advice;
  • a large strategy report; or
  • ongoing support unless we agree to it separately.

This limit keeps the work focused. It also means you are not paying for a large review when one clear decision may be enough.

A practical guarantee

The review should give you:

  • a clear priority;
  • practical next steps; and
  • a better understanding of the problem.

If it does not, tell us within seven days of the findings call. We will revise the work with you. If the revised work still does not provide those three things, we will refund the fee.

One clear price

USD $1,500

Paid before the review begins. We can invoice the local equivalent where useful.

Estimated standalone value: USD $4,500.

We begin no more than three new reviews or client engagements in one month.

Practical work, without over-engineering

Simple and Engaging were really good at finding that balance point between not over-engineering, but also making sure it was fit for purpose.

This review may be a good fit if:

  • your organisation has a current, recurring operations problem;
  • the problem is causing real effort, delay, risk or staff pressure;
  • the cause is not yet clear;
  • a leader can support the work; and
  • you can keep the first review to one connected problem.

It is not the right fit if:

  • you only want a list of software tools;
  • you want a review of the whole organisation for this fee;
  • the issue is mainly legal, accounting, HR or cybersecurity;
  • there is no current problem to solve; or
  • you already know exactly what needs to be built or changed.

If the work is already clear, a direct project discussion may be more useful. Contact us about the project.

Ask if the review is a good fit

There is no charge to ask. We will review the problem before we invite you to proceed.

Tell us what is happening. We will review your answers and reply within two working days. You will not be asked to pay until we confirm that the review is a good fit.

Number of staff, not including volunteers.

Describe one recurring workflow or one connected problem. Tell us what happens and who is involved.

For example: delays, staff pressure, errors, reporting risk, growth or a planned change.

Please do not include personal information about beneficiaries, donors, clients or service users.

Common questions

Do we need to know the cause before we start?

No. The review is most useful when you can see the problem but are not sure what is causing it.

Can more than three people join?

The working session includes up to three people. This keeps the session focused. We can agree on a different scope if more people must take part.

Will you recommend new software?

Only if the evidence points that way. Many tool problems begin with unclear work, scattered data or weak handoffs. We will not recommend software just to make the answer look bigger.

Does the review include implementation?

No. You will receive a plan and a clear view of what your team can do. If you want help with the changes, we can discuss that after the review.
